- A methodology for gathering requirements. a description of a system’s behavior as it responds to a request that originates from outside of that system. In other words, a use case describes "who" can do "what" with the system in question.
- Vendor
- A company which supplies parts or services to another company. In this resume, the term vendor is used to encompass contracting, recruiting, consulting, employment, placement, or staffing services companies where the vendor employs a consultant who works on a contract for another company.
- Visio
- a diagramming program for Microsoft Windows that uses vector graphics to create flow charts, entity-relationship diagrams, charts, etc.,
- VPN
- Virtual Private Network; A system to allow businesses to access their internal networks and computers over the Internet or other public network, using encrypted tunnels to ensure that data cannot be accessed without authorisation.
- VSS
- Visual SourceSafe; a source control system from Microsoft with versioning and configuration management functionality
- W3C
- World Wide Web Consortium; the main international standards organization for the World Wide Web.
- WAP
- Wireless Access Protocol; a data transmission standard to deliver wireless markup language (WML) content.
- Waterfall model
- a sequential software development process, in which progress is seen as flowing steadily downwards (like a waterfall) through the phases of Conception, Initiation, Analysis, Design (validation), Construction, Testing and Maintenance.
- Web Analytics
- The measurement, collection, analysis and reporting of internet data for purposes of understanding and optimizing web usage.
- WCMS
- Web Content Management System. A software system that provides website authoring, collaboration, and administration tools designed to allow users with little knowledge of web programming languages or markup languages to create and manage website content with relative ease. E.G. Microsoft SharePoint and Telerik Sitefinity
- WML
- Wireless Markup Language; a document description language based on XML for creating content and user interfaces targeted at narrow-band devices implementing WAP such as mobile telephones and pagers
- XHTML
- Extensible Hypertext Markup Language; Once the "next generation of
HTML" after HTML 4 --- until HTML 5 became the "next generation
of HTML"; A general purpose markup language that utilizes existing and
future XML elements to present information on the WWW; Although it is very
similar to HTML 4, it follows a stricter set of rules, thus allowing for
better automatic code validation.
- XML
- Extensible Markup Language; a set of rules for encoding documents electronically; It is defined by the W3C; It defines rules to mark-up a document in a way that allows the author to express semantic meaning in the mark-up. XML does not necessarily restrict the author to certain tags (elements) as HTML and XHTML does.
